The centre of the World Church has indisputably moved to the global south. In Africa the Church is both vibrant and growing on the one hand, yet nominal on the other. This rapid growth has resulted in a huge gap in the leadership formation capacity of the Church. CMS in Africa therefore sees discipleship at the core of all that we seek to do on the continent. The need for servant leaders is urgent.
Africa is largely a young and rapidly urbanising continent with an average of 60 % below the age of 25years this fact is exacerbated by the fact the HIV/AIDS has reduced the life expectancy in some countries to a mere 35 years of age. Despite the continents tremendous natural resources Africa continues to be ravaged by: poverty, unemployment, poor health. Mal-governance- in particular corruption, environmental degradation. Literacy is still a challenge for the majority. There are increasingly both tensions and opportunities for those living in multi-faith communities. The need for holistic discipleship is urgent. |
