The challenge of Africa's multi-faith context

Africa is multi-faith and religiously plural. This is a fact that cannot be over emphasised. This multi-faith context also provides both an opportunity and a challenge to the church and her mission on the continent.

The body of Christ (the Church) in Africa has tremendous opportunity to live and manifest the love of Christ to people of other faith on the continent. This however, poses the challenge of identifying and employing appropriate and non-polemic methods to appreciate the pluralistic context and the unique African context.

To enable the church live out its calling and mission, CMS-Africa will seek to:
  1. Equip the local and global church with knowledge and skills appropriate on contextual engagement.
  2. Envision the church to a Christo-centric understanding of good neighbourliness knowing that conversion is not of man but of God.
  3. Empower faith groups to identify common grounds of co-operation.
