There are an estimated 170 million Africans aged between 15 and 24 years. This largest-ever generation of adolescents is approaching adulthood in a world their elders could not have imagined. Globalization, the AIDS pandemic, electronic communications and a changing climate have irrevocably shifted the landscape. While many are educated, trained and employed, others are still unemployed and living in abject poverty. A large number are living in countries that are recovering from the effects of war. Some are leaving their homes in droves for greener pastures outside Africa. The youth are vital to the growth and development of the African communities. To this effect, CMS Africa has designed programmes to empower the youth towards maximizing their potential. We believe that they can make a positive contribution to their communities and uplift the lives of those close to them. The youth can build the future they want to see. CMS Africa wants to identify good programmes and best practices for work with the youth and connect them to other beneficiaries. The best way to shape the future of Africa is to invest in the youth. |
